You Do Not Have to Be Good: Poems inspired by the 7 Deadly Sins

In this class, we’ll work against the relentless pressure of this world to be perfect, constantly publishing, productivity focused machines. We’ll use the seven deadly sins as a jumping off point to drafting poems of gentleness, of softness, of getting through, We’ll read and write poems of living in a way that our energy is preserved and replenished, and luxuriate in whatever best fuels our muse. We’ll read luscious and lusty work by Lucie Brock Broido, Chen Chen, June Jordan, Gabrielle Calvocoressi and so many more. On Sundays, we’ll meet for an optional readaround and to share thoughts, but all of the class material is available any time of the week, so that you can move through the week on your schedule. This class is mostly generative in nature, with a tiny bit of discussion, and a lot of writing, which you will be encouraged to share and cheer each other on during our weekly live readarounds, and by giving and receiving light comments on class work on Wet.Ink.

Hybrid course - Course content posted week to week on Wet.Ink plus optional one hour weekly live meetings on Google Meet for light discussion and optional sharing of work inspired by the theme.
*If you prefer not to join us live, that's fine! Google Meets are optional, and all course material can be taken asynchronously, including comments.
