Sonya Huber writes, "I want to be better than my pain, but I cannot will my way through it. I have willed my way through so much pain in my life, and now I have come up against pain that is bigger than my will.” How are we supposed to write through this pain? This workshop explores work from writers working through illness and disability. We will read work from authors like Travis Chi Wing Lau, Ysabel Y. Gonzalez, and A.A. Vincent. Our readings will inspire writing prompts. We will also discuss and practice specific writing strategies. There will be time to share work. You will leave with concrete prompts to help you write where it hurts.
