In this class, poet Jane Huffman will address the primary craft tools that drive her poetry practice, using poems from her forthcoming book, Dilemma (Vanderbilt University Press, 2027) as teaching tools. She will focus on leveraging slant rhyme and other sonic devices, resisting narrative resolution without totally losing the plot, practicing various formal structures (including “prosemetric” forms, those which contain both verse and prose), and developing what Stefan Wolp calls “traffic sense.”
